Nigeria and Uganda have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence and diplomatic cooperation as both countries advance efforts to deepen collaboration on regional peace, security, and institutional capacity development.
Persecondnews reports.that the position was reinforced on Tuesday, when the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, received a delegation from the National Defence College of the Ugandan Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) on a study tour to Nigeria.
The delegation was received by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Amb. Musa Sani Nuhu, Director of the Policy Research and Statistics Department; Amb. Ali Gombe, Member of the National Institute (mni), Director of the African Affairs Department; and Brig.-Gen. Lawal Idris, Defence Liaison Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside other officials of the ministry.
Amb. Musa Sani Nuhu welcomed the delegation on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, framing the visit as a testament to the strong, strategic partnership between Nigeria and Uganda.
During the meeting, Odumegwu-Ojukwu conveyed Nigeria’s solidarity and condolences to Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo over a recent Ebola outbreak that claimed more than 130 lives, offering prayers for the victims and their families.
The ministry reiterated that stronger pan-African cooperation is essential to overcoming the continent’s shared security and developmental hurdles.
Amb. Gombe, in his remarks, said Nigeria remains committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Uganda in the areas of diplomacy, peace, and regional security cooperation.
He commended Uganda for its smooth political transition and expressed hope that the delegation’s visit to Nigeria would provide valuable insight and strengthen cooperation between both countries.
Gombe stressed the need for stronger collaboration among African countries to address emerging security threats and promote lasting peace and stability across the continent.
The deliberations underscored the importance of continuous engagement among African institutions in tackling terrorism, climate-related risks, and evolving global security dynamics.”
