The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has launched the second phase of compensation for residents affected by the 330kV Double Circuit Mando–Rimin Zakara project.
This move aligns with the federal government’s broader strategy to modernize and stabilize power infrastructure across Northern Nigeria.
The exercise, which commenced on May 7 in Shika, Zaria, is targeting more than 2,000 Project Affected Persons (PAPs) whose properties and lands fall within the project’s transmission corridor.
The Mando–Rimin Zakara transmission line is one of Nigeria’s major power reinforcement projects designed to improve electricity transmission capacity and grid reliability across Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano which are key industrial and commercial hubs in the North.
Speaking during the exercise, the Project Manager, Engr. Omobola Odusoga Sobo, disclosed that about 5,500 affected persons were identified along the transmission route, with the current phase covering roughly 2,000 beneficiaries.
She explained that compensation and right of way clearance remain critical requirements before the commencement of major transmission projects, noting that the process is necessary to protect infrastructure, ensure safety, and facilitate smooth project execution.

Sobo commended traditional rulers and community leaders for supporting sensitisation efforts and encouraging residents to cooperate with officials throughout the exercise.
She also acknowledged the support of TCN’s Managing Director, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, and the African Development Bank, which is supporting the project alongside the Federal Government.
In his remarks, the District Head of Rigasa, Arc. Muhammed Aminu Idris, said TCN had maintained transparency and continuous engagement with affected communities throughout the compensation process.
While noting that it may be impossible to satisfy every individual completely, he expressed optimism that the transmission project would improve electricity supply and stimulate economic growth across the region.
The exercise began with the screening and verification of claimants, during which beneficiaries presented original documents for authentication before payment approval.
TCN said the process was designed to ensure accountability, transparency, and the proper identification of legitimate claimants.
Several beneficiaries who received compensation commended the company for what they described as an organised and transparent process.
Some also pledged continued support and cooperation for the successful completion of the project.
According to TCN, the transmission line will extend from the Mando Transmission Substation in Kaduna State to the Rimin Zakara Transmission Substation in Kano State, with a Turn In -Turn Out connection at the new 2x150MVA 330/132/33kV substation in Jaja, Zaria.
The project forms part of broader national efforts to expand Nigeria’s transmission wheeling capacity, improve grid redundancy, and strengthen electricity delivery across critical industrial corridors.
