Nigerian billionaire music executive Soso Soberekon has set the entertainment industry abuzz after revealing that a group of wealthy investors are prepared to stake a staggering $1 billion (₦1.37 trillion) on a potential celebrity boxing match between Afrobeats superstars Davido and Wizkid.

Soberekon made the bold claim while speaking on the growing appetite for high-profile celebrity bouts, noting that such a clash between the two music heavyweights could redefine entertainment in Nigeria and across Africa.

According to him, the proposed fight would not just be about rivalry but would serve as a landmark spectacle capable of drawing global attention, massive sponsorship deals, and unprecedented pay-per-view numbers.

He further suggested that the bout, if agreed upon, should be staged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja widely regarded as Nigeria’s largest sporting arena, to accommodate the expected surge of fans.

The music executive insisted that the event could become the highest-grossing entertainment show ever organized in the country, surpassing concerts and festivals in both scale and revenue.

Soberekon also argued that beyond the financial stakes, the fight could symbolically address long-standing debates and rivalries within the Afrobeats industry, offering what he described as a “definitive showdown.”

Since the revelation surfaced, social media platforms have been flooded with reactions, with fans of both Davido and Wizkid passionately debating the idea and speculating on who would emerge victorious.

Supporters from both camps have taken to X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok to campaign for the bout, with hashtags and viral posts urging both artists to accept what many are calling the “biggest entertainment challenge of the decade.”

While some fans view the proposal as an exciting and historic opportunity, others have questioned its practicality, pointing out the risks and the artists’ existing global commitments.
