An unruly motorist has been convicted in Abuja over the violent assault and brief abduction of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshal Shehu Mohammed during a routine traffic enforcement operation on the Kubwa Expressway.
The incident occurred on April 30 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., during a special patrol by officials of RS 7.19 Dutse Alhaji Unit Command at Gegu Filling Station.
Persecondnews reports that in a statement on the agency’s official X page on Wednesday, the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, said the patrol team had flagged down a Toyota Hilux with registration no. YAB 931 AE for routine enforcement duties, but the driver allegedly refused to comply and escalated the encounter into violence.
The Corp described the confrontation as a serious breach of public order that reportedly led to the assault and temporary abduction of a marshal carrying out official duties.
With swift intervention by the patrol team, and support from police officers attached to the operation, the situation was brought under control and the suspect was arrested and handed over to the FCDA Police Station, Kubwa, while the vehicle was impounded for investigation.
Following prosecution, the court found the offender guilty and sentenced him to a ₦72,000 fine or three months imprisonment in default. The court also awarded ₦50,000 compensation to the assaulted FRSC officer.
The Corps Marshal, Mohammed, described the incident as a dangerous escalation from routine traffic enforcement into criminal conduct, warning that attacks on law enforcement officers threaten public safety.
“Attacks on FRSC personnel constitute a direct assault on public safety and the rule of law,” stressing that enforcement operations would continue firmly and professionally,” he said.
He commended the marshals involved for their discipline under pressure, noting that their restraint prevented further escalation of the incident.
The Corps vowed not to tolerate any form of obstruction, intimidation, or violence against its personnel,” urging motorists to comply fully with traffic regulations at all times.
Persecondnews reports that the FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies and the judiciary to ensure swift prosecution of offenders and protection of its personnel.
