Atiku Should Be Held Responsible if Opposition Fails — Buba Galadima

Elder statesman Buba Galadima has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should be held accountable if efforts to unify opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections fail.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, monitored by Persecondnews on Monday, he argued that Atiku’s political decisions and positioning within opposition realignments could determine whether a united front emerges against the ruling party.

“If he refuses to join the NDC, then whatever happens to the opposition former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will be held responsible… because he has now undermined the unity of the opposition to unseat this government,” he said.

He further said opposition leaders must prioritise collective strength over personal ambition, warning that internal divisions could weaken their chances in 2027.

The politician also accused the ruling establishment of deliberately weakening opposition structures.

“There are insinuations that the APC and the government, in fact by extension Tinubu, used the courts to weaken the opposition.”

He appealed to former Vice President Atiku, urging him to align with a new political platform in the interest of opposition unity.

“We are also pleading with the Vice President to come into the NDC such that we can consolidate again and remove the incumbent government,” he said.

He disclosed what he described as confidential consultations with political allies, saying those discussions influenced a strategic shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I think I need to say something here, even though it’s extremely confidential… some good Samaritans advised us that we should better look for another platform,” he said.

According to him, the advice was based on concerns surrounding the viability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following recent developments.

Galadima said opposition actors have now moved to consolidate under the NDC, which he described as a more stable and inclusive platform for contesting elections.

He urged remaining opposition figures to join the NDC, insisting it offers a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the 2027 polls.
