2028 Women’s Olympic Qualifiers: CAF Draw Slated for Cairo

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the draw for the African qualifying campaign for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Persecondnews reports that the much-anticipated draw is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at CAF’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Football fans across the continent and beyond will be able to follow the proceedings live on CAF TV, with coverage beginning at 15:00 local Egyptian time, which corresponds to 12:00 GMT.

A total of 35 national teams will compete in the rigorous qualifying process aimed at securing Africa’s two qualification spots for the prestigious event in the United States.

The competing nations include Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya.

Others include Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The qualifying competition has been structured into five progressive rounds, designed to determine the two African representatives who will join the global field at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, set to run from July 11 to 29, 2028.

This draw marks a significant milestone in the journey toward the Olympic Games, as African women’s football continues to grow in strength and competitiveness on the international stage.
