Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kabiru Turaki (SAN), a factional National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The order followed Turaki’s failure to appear for his scheduled arraignment on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Despite being served with the relevant court processes and a hearing notice, the defendant was absent, prompting the judge to rule that the lack of a “reasonable explanation” for his non-appearance was an unjustifiable breach of legal obligation.
The case against Turaki was filed by the Nigeria Police Force, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
He is accused of giving false information to the police in a petition dated October 2022.
The legal action involves a single-count charge centered on the alleged submission of a false statement, a criminal offense under the Penal Code.
This latest legal hurdle further complicates the entrenched leadership struggle within the PDP, as rival factions continue to battle for control of the party’s executive structure.
Political analysts suggest that the court-ordered arrest could ripple through the party’s internal dynamics.
With the PDP already fractured, this development may among others deepen Internal Divisions: Heighten the friction between competing leadership camps, complicate the party’s ability to present a unified front as it prepares for upcoming electoral cycles.
It may also force the party to refocus resources on navigating high-profile criminal litigation rather than political campaigning.
