Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has declared himself a “free and healthy” man after overcoming nicotine addiction and distancing himself from a high-octane lifestyle.
Persecondnews reports that on Wednesday, March 25, the Jos-bred artist shared a raw reflection on his path to recovery, marking a significant shift away from what he described as his “loud” persona.
In his words: “Quitting… Quitting loud and cigarette is by far the best decision I ever made in my life… from a chronic smoker to a very happy non-smoker, God is the greatest!!!! Feeling unchained and saved.”
The statement, simple but loaded, captures a turning point for the rapper, who admitted that the habit had once defined a significant part of his daily routine.
For an artist long associated with nightlife, music tours, and the high-energy culture of the entertainment industry, the decision marks a sharp break from the past.
Ice Prince rose to prominence in the early 2010s with a string of hits that resonated across Nigeria and beyond.
His breakout single “Oleku” became a cultural moment, earning massive airplay and establishing him as one of the most exciting voices in African hip-hop at the time.
His debut album, ‘Everybody Loves Ice Prince,’ further strengthened his standing, showcasing his lyrical depth and ability to blend rap with mainstream appeal.
Over the years, he collaborated with top acts and maintained a reputation for consistency and creativity.
However, in recent years, the rapper’s presence in the mainstream has slowed, with fewer headline-making releases compared to his peak era.
The industry’s rapid evolution and the emergence of new stars have shifted the spotlight, placing him in a quieter phase of his career.
