The Nigeria Basketball Federation has unveiled plans for a groundbreaking international friendly as Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, D’Tigress, takes on the Los Angeles Sparks in a preseason exhibition match set for April 25, 2026, at Viejas Arena in San Diego.

The game appears on the Sparks’ official preseason calendar, marking a significant step forward for Nigerian basketball and the broader growth of women’s sports internationally.

For the first time in history, D’Tigress will test their mettle against the Los Angeles Sparks, a powerhouse of the WNBA.

Beyond the court, the contest serves as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in international basketball and its continued dominance across the continent.

Applauding the announcement, NBBF President Musa Kida called the upcoming exhibition a transformative moment for Nigerian basketball.

“D’Tigress have earned global respect through years of dominance, discipline, and consistency.

“Competing against a premier WNBA franchise further validates our position and showcases Nigerian excellence on the world stage,” Persecondnews quotes the NBBF President as saying.

The team enters the high-profile encounter boasting a stellar resume that features several AfroBasket crowns and a longstanding spot as Africa’s top-ranked women’s side.

For more than seven years, the programme has thrived, thanks to a well-organized, high-performance framework that has delivered consistent results.

NBBF officials continue to focus on blending locally developed players with those from the diaspora, giving Nigerian talent every chance to shine at the highest levels of the game.

The entire U.S.-based training camp and exhibition slate has been carefully crafted to sharpen the squad ahead of an important competitive period.

Central elements include bringing in top-tier players, lining up friendlies against elite opposition, and fine-tuning tactics for upcoming tournaments.

Organizers anticipate that these collaborative efforts will bolster Nigeria’s long-term basketball development, impacting everything from grassroots initiatives to elite-level competition.

Following the April 25 showdown, D’Tigress will maintain their momentum with additional fixtures and intensive training as they prepare for a landmark 2026 campaign.
