Nasir El-Rufai will remain in custody until at least March 31, 2026, after a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna adjourned his bail proceedings.
Tuesday’s hearing saw a spirited exchange between the prosecution and the defence.
Leading the former governor’s legal team, Mr. Ukpon Akpan urged the court to lean toward leniency, arguing that bail is a constitutional right essential for the defendant to adequately prepare his case.
The prosecution, however, opposed the application, arguing that the charges against El-Rufai are serious and that granting bail could interfere with ongoing investigations.
The former Kaduna governor was arraigned by the ICPC over charges related to alleged fraud, corruption and abuse of office.
