As voters file out for Saturday’s FCT and bye-elections in some parts of the country, President  Bola Tinubu has tasked INEC with delivering a transparent process that prioritizes “voter confidence.”

The elections—spanning the Federal Capital Territory and critical constituencies in Rivers (Ahoada East II, Khana II) and Kano (Kano Municipal, Ungogo)—serve as a major test for the commission’s credibility.

Beyond the logistics, the President issued a stern warning against intimidation and political violence.

He called on all candidates and parties to shun inflammatory rhetoric, reminding security personnel that their primary duty is to protect the “sanctity of the ballot” rather than disenfranchise the electorate.

Tinubu appealed to the Commission to take all necessary measures to bolster voters’ confidence by ensuring timely accreditation, smooth voting processes, accurate collation, and prompt transmission of results, in line with the 2026 Electoral Act.

“Fellow Nigerians, I assure you that the Federal Government under my administration will continue to support institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections.

“To all residents of the FCT, Kano and Rivers, I commend your civic consciousness. I am confident that these elections will reflect the will of the people and further strengthen our democratic journey as a nation,” the President said.
