Tension in Ondo After Gunmen Murder Monarch in Bandits’ Failed Abduction

Tragedy struck the Akure North Council Area of Ondo State as suspected gunmen murdered Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledun, the traditional ruler of Ahungha Village in Agamo area.

At approximately 7:10 pm on Wednesday, an estimated 10 armed men invaded the palace in a violent attempt to abduct the monarch.

Family sources said the monarch “bravely resisted his captors” while witnesses claim that although the assailants fired several shots at him, the bullets failed to penetrate, Persecondnews gathered.

Thwarted by his resilience, the attackers reportedly dragged him from the palace and struck him in the head with a heavy object.

His body was later discovered by family members after the killers fled.

The monarch’s wife noted that the assailants approached from the Itaogbolu axis and were heard speaking the Hausa language.

She lamented:”They killed my husband in my presence.”

The state police command has officially confirmed the killing of the monarch following a swift response to the incident.

According to DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the command’s spokesman, the division was alerted at approximately 7:50 p.m. by a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement.

He said six armed men had stormed the monarch’s residence in New Town, Itaogbolu, forcibly abducting him before fleeing the scene.

Abayomi added:”The victim was later found a few meters away with gunshot wounds. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer alongside command Tactical teams promptly mobilized officers in collaboration with local security outfits, including Atuluse Security, local hunters, and Amotekun operatives, to comb adjoining bushes and surrounding areas in a bid to apprehend the perpetrators.

“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified across the area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

“The Police Command assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice.”

Abayomi urged the public to provide any credible or actionable information by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting the command directly.
