Nigerian music star Davido has stepped away from his legal battle over the custody of his daughter, a move that follows an emotionally charged court session that reopened painful memories for the singer and his family.
The Afrobeats heavyweight confirmed he had decided to discontinue the case involving his first daughter, Imade Adeleke, stressing that his intention from the beginning was never to strip anyone of parental rights but to secure joint custody that would allow him play a consistent role in her upbringing.
Taking to social media shortly after the court proceedings, the singer wrote with visible frustration: “I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade.”
Davido further stated, “My daughter will know I fought for her.” The declaration, brief but powerful, underlined his desire for the public record — and eventually his daughter — to reflect that he made efforts to remain actively involved in her life.
The case, which involved Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, had attracted widespread attention, with supporters on both sides dissecting every update.
What initially appeared to be a legal disagreement over parental access soon escalated into a highly publicised courtroom standoff.
According to the singer, the turning point came during a tense exchange in court when a remark was made referencing his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
Davido described the comment as deeply hurtful and unnecessary, implying that it crossed a line that should never have been approached.
“All of this was unnecessary,” he wrote in another post, expressing disappointment at how the proceedings unfolded.
While he did not go into graphic detail, his reaction made clear that the emotional weight of the moment outweighed any legal advantage he might have pursued.
Observers say the decision to withdraw may mark a strategic pause rather than a complete surrender, but Davido’s tone suggested exhaustion with the public spectacle the case had become.
