Governor Siminalayi Fubara revealed on Wednesday that Rivers State had over N300 billion in its coffers prior to his suspension and the imposition of emergency rule by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.

He made this disclosure during the commissioning of the Obodhi-Ozochi road and bridge project, which spans the Ahoada East and West LGAs.

“I want to also say to the whole world that when we left during the emergency rule, our records are there; we left over N300 billion,” Fubara said, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

He said on resumption of office in September, he found approximately N600 billion in the government till.

The governor assured that the funds are being utilized for viable projects, stating, “The record is there for every penny we spend, and the evidence will show within the next 12 months.”

Defending his record, Fubara insisted that his administration is built on transparency.

He told the audience: “Nobody can take away my sincerity… I am not associated with any fraudulent activity.”

This defence follows sharp criticism from the state legislature, where lawmakers have alleged that Fubara bypassed official approvals to fund associates, including individuals linked to the destruction of the House of Assembly building.
