667

Northern governors and traditional rulers have gathered for an urgent meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna to address rising insecurity in the region.

Chaired by Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and co-chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the crucial closed-door session is dedicated to finding solutions for the surge in banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and farmer-herder clashes.

Persecondnews recalls that Southern Governors Forum and traditional rulers had last week held a one-day meeting at Iperu, Ogun State over escalating insecurity and announced measures to fight it.

These intensifying conflicts have tragically claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands of people throughout the region in recent months.

Insecurity in the Northern part of the country has heightened in the last couple of weeks.

Persecondnews recalls that at least 24 schoolgirls were abducted by bandits in Kebbi State.

However, they regained their freedom a few days after their abduction.

Similarly, bandits whisked away no fewer than 300 school children from a Catholic private school in Niger State, out of which 50 reportedly escaped and have been reunited with their families.
