AGN, AMP, DGN wield the big stick, suspend Taiye Arimoro over Peggy Ovire set clash

The Nigerian film industry has witnessed a major disciplinary action as the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), and the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) jointly suspended actor Taiye Arimoro over a violent altercation on the set of actress Peggy Ovire’s latest production.

AGN President Emeka Rollas announced the decision with an emotional statement, explaining that the move stems from “responsibility, compassion, and a desire to restore trust” within Nollywood.

He emphasized that AGN operates as a family, and all measures are intended to safeguard the wellbeing of its members.

According to the joint communiqué dated November 27, 2025, disciplinary committees from the three guilds found Arimoro to be the primary aggressor.

He reportedly assaulted the production manager and the driver, and circulated a misleading live video that misrepresented the events, unfairly implicating producer Peggy Ovire, who was not present during the initial altercation.

The director, production manager, and other crew members were, however, cleared of wrongdoing.

After conducting their inquiry, the guilds delivered a unified verdict, immediately suspending Taiye Arimoro from participation in all Nollywood productions.

He is also required to make a public apology to the production manager, Peggy Ovire, and the director.

Additionally, Arimoro must release a corrective video outlining the actual sequence of events, return to complete his remaining scenes for Pieces of Love under supervision, and comply with any further instructions from the guilds.

While Peggy Ovire was not involved in the fight, the guilds noted that her emotional reaction at the estate gate contributed to the escalation.

As a result, she is required to issue official apology letters to the guilds, apologise to the estate management, and submit a written undertaking committing to better personnel management on future sets.

Industry insiders have said the ruling is a strong warning to Nollywood professionals, highlighting that misconduct on set—whether physical or via social media—will not be tolerated.

The incident has sparked debates across social media about discipline, professionalism, and accountability within the Nigerian film sector.
