Rivers United is set to face defending champions Pyramids FC in their CAF Champions League group stage opener at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday, November 22.
The Port Harcourt-based club is looking to make a statement in their first group stage appearance, despite being the underdogs against the Egyptian giants.
“We are looking forward to an interesting game against the defending champions,” said Finidi George, Rivers United’s technical adviser.
“It is going to be a good game, the atmosphere is good, and we are looking forward to the game,” he added, expressing his confidence in the team’s preparation.
Finidi pointed out that his team is mentally and physically ready for the challenge, acknowledging Pyramids FC’s strength while stressing Rivers United’s determination to secure a positive result.
“We know why we are here… we are up for the challenge. Come tomorrow, we are going to give our best here, to make sure we get a good result,” Finidi said.
The game is a fixture in Group B, where Rivers United is set to compete against RS Berkane of Morocco and Power Dynamos from Zambia.
In the day’s other Group B match, RS Berkane will be facing Power Dynamos.
