Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Shettima touched down at the Waterkloof Air Force Base on Friday evening, where he was received by a delegation of high-ranking officials, including Minister of Finance Wale Edun and South Africa’s Chief Director for West Africa, Nyameko Goso.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the G20 Leaders’ Summit,” said Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President) on Friday.

Persecondnews reports that Shettima is set to engage with global leaders and development partners on pressing issues, including economic cooperation, security partnerships, climate financing, and global development.

The G20 Summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will take place from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, bringing together leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies, alongside representatives of the European Union, the African Union, and major international financial institutions.

According to Nkwocha, Shettima will participate in three high-level panel sessions, focusing on global economic recovery, development financing, debt relief, climate change, and food security.

Shettima’s attendance follows President Tinubu’s last-minute cancellation of his trip due to security concerns, including the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and an attack on Christian worshippers at CAC, Eruku, Kwara State.

The Vice President will hold bilateral meetings to secure partnerships aligned with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and discuss regional peace and security concerns.

Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after the summit, which aims to strengthen global cooperation and address pressing economic and environmental challenges.
