Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has begun preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs, with 10 players already in camp in Rabat, Morocco.
The team is gearing up to face Gabon in the semi-finals on Thursday, with a potential final clash against either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, November 16.
The Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe, disclosed this to Persecondnews correspondent on Monday in Abuja.
He named the players currently in camp as Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, William Troost-Ekong, Benjamin Fredericks, and Chidozie Awaziem.
“Eleven more players are expected to join the team on Monday, ahead of the crucial playoff matches,” he said.
The Super Eagles secured their playoff spot with a 4-0 win over Benin Republic in their final Group C fixture, finishing as one of the best third-placed sides.
Coach Eric Chelle’s men are looking to build on this momentum and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The team’s next match is against Gabon, and a win will set them up for a potential final clash with either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The winner of this series will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026, with a chance to secure a spot in the World Cup.
