Nigerian actor and rapper Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West and brother to Nollywood star Regina Daniels, has been granted bail by an Abuja Magistrates’ Court following his arrest and arraignment on multiple charges.

The court granted him bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties in like sum on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Sammy West’s arrest had drawn widespread public attention after reports surfaced that he was taken into custody by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Metro Area Command.

He was charged with criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and cyberbullying.

The arrest reportedly followed a petition submitted to the police on October 28, 2025.

According to police sources, the musician and social media influencer had allegedly ignored several formal invitations from law enforcement officers before he was eventually apprehended in Lagos and transported to Abuja.

The police claimed that due process was followed, stating that the warrant for his arrest was properly obtained.

He was subsequently arraigned on November 6, and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His legal team, led by Mr. Marshal D. F. Abubakar, immediately applied for his bail, arguing that the allegations against him were “exaggerated and politically motivated.”

In granting the bail, the magistrate noted that the offences were bailable and that the accused is entitled to bail as a constitutional right.

The court ordered that he be released once his bail conditions were fulfilled and instructed that the case should proceed to proper trial in due course.

The development came after days of social media uproar and public outcry, with many of Regina Daniels’ supporters accusing the authorities of trying to intimidate the actress through her family.

Several celebrities and activists joined the call for his release, tagging the detention as an abuse of power.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore is among those who intervened in the case.

Speaking to journalists outside the court, Sowore said justice must not be selective.

“Nobody should be persecuted because of family ties or political disagreements,” he said, stressing that the legal process should be transparent and fair.

Regina Daniels had earlier taken to social media to express her distress over her brother’s detention, alleging that his arrest was an attempt to pressure her amid her ongoing family challenges.

The actress, who is married to politician and businessman, Sen. Ned Nwoko, described the experience as “one of the most painful moments” of her life.

A police spokesperson has dismissed claims of political motivation, maintaining that the arrest was strictly based on a petition and subsequent investigation.

The spokesperson said: “We acted on credible information and followed due process. The matter is now before the court, and the judiciary will determine the next steps.”

Sammy West’s supporters have continued to celebrate his release on bail, flooding social media with messages of solidarity.

Many have also praised the legal team and the activists who worked to secure his freedom.

Videos shared online showed moments of jubilation as his family and friends gathered to welcome him after he met his bail conditions.
