Atalanta have parted ways with head coach Ivan Juric after just 11 matches in charge, citing a string of poor results and internal tensions.

The decision comes after a 3-0 defeat to Sassuolo, which capped a run of just two wins in 11 league games.

“Atalanta BC announces that Ivan Juric has been relieved of his position as head coach of the first team, along with his closest members of staff,” the club said in a statement on Monday, thanking Juric for his efforts.

The move marks a dramatic fall from grace for Juric, who was appointed as Atalanta’s new head coach over the summer, replacing the legendary Gian Piero Gasperini.

The club’s statement added: “Atalanta thanks Ivan Juric and his staff for their efforts, and wishes them all the best for the future.”

Juric’s tenure was marred by controversy, including a heated touchline clash with star player Ademola Lookman during a Champions League match against Marseille.

The incident, in which Juric grabbed Lookman’s arm, sparked widespread criticism, with many fans and pundits siding with the Nigerian forward.

Lookman, the reigning African Footballer of the Year, had been substituted by Juric in the 75th minute, sparking a furious reaction from the player.

The confrontation was seen as a symptom of deeper issues within the team, which has struggled to gel under Juric’s leadership.

Raffaele Palladino, the former Monza and Fiorentina boss, is widely tipped to replace Juric as Atalanta’s new head coach.

The Italian tactician is expected to bring a fresh approach to the team, with a focus on attacking football and rebuilding the squad’s confidence.
