The Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled a ₦134 billion contract awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in public contracting.
Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, the head of the council, nullified the contracts on Thursday which was awarded to the CCECC during the period of emergency rule of Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (retd).
Persecondnews reports that the Council has directed CCECC to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee already paid for the project.
This decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Port Harcourt.
Fubara emphasized that his administration would not tolerate projects that fail to meet due process or deliver value for public funds.
In a bid to enhance education infrastructure, the Council approved the constitution of a six-member committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
