The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has launched a discreet investigation into the death of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed in an armed robbery attack in her Abuja home.
The command, in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 30, by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, and sent to Persecondnews, described the incident as a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society.
Adeh said the FCT Police Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, friends, colleagues and the media community, and pledged that every effort would be made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The statement reads: “To this end, he has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“He further directed the deployment of intelligence and operational assets to identify, track, and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
“While assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to public safety and the prevention of similar occurrences, the CP called on members of the public to support ongoing investigations by providing timely and useful information to the Police.
“He charged all FCT residents to always ensure they raise prompt alarm in every suspicious situation with a view to denying criminal elements in our society, opportunity to carry out their evil plans.

Persecondnews had reported that the Nigerian media industry was plunged into grief on Monday, September 29, following Maduagwu’s tragic death.
She was killed during an armed robbery attack at her Abuja residence in Katampe in the early hours of Monday.
