Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has denied reports that he has concluded plans to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwaso also denied claims that he had sent a letter to the APC National Chairman intimating him of a decision to return to the party.
“We have been alerted to some online statements suggesting that we have submitted a letter of intent to join a political party in the country. We would like to clarify that we have not made any such submission to any party,” Kwankwaso stated in a post on his official X handle on Friday morning.
“The public is therefore advised to stay informed of any further information regarding our matter through the established official channels”.
Kwankwaso had earlier stated that his group is open to political alliances, but they will only work with the APC if respect, fairness, and inclusion are guaranteed.
“We are ready to join APC under strong conditions and promises,” he said.
“But we will not allow anyone to use us and later dump us. Our people have suffered that in the past, and we have learned our lessons.”
Persecondnews recalls that on Sunday, reports had emerged that Kwankwaso was planning to defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the NNPP has consistently denied these claims, describing them as baseless and driven by desperation.
As the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Kwankwaso enjoys massive grassroots support, particularly in Kano State.
The movement has become an ideological subgroup within the NNPP, and its influence extends beyond party lines.
