…heads to Turkey for treatment

The Super Eagles will be without their star striker, Victor Osimhen, for the critical 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

Osimhen is currently in Turkey receiving treatment for a bruised shin and will not be available for the match.

“We have assessed Victor’s condition, and unfortunately, he’s not fit for the match against South Africa,” said the team doctor in a Whatsapp message to Persecondnews correspondent.

“The bruise on his shin is causing him discomfort, and we don’t want to risk aggravating the injury. He’ll receive treatment in Turkey and hopefully be back in action soon.”

The team doctor’s words confirmed the worst fears for Super Eagles fans, who were banking on Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess to lead the team to victory in South Africa.

The stakes are high for Tuesday’s match, with both teams desperate for a win.

With both the Super Eagles and South Africa securing victories in their last matches—Nigeria over Rwanda and Bafana Bafana with a decisive 3-0 win against Lesotho—the tension is building for their upcoming encounter.

The Super Eagles are now preparing for a challenging match in a freezing Bloemfontein evening, where they will have to find a way to compensate for the absence of their key striker, Victor Osimhen.
