Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that defender Jeremie Frimpong will be out of action for several weeks with a hamstring injury.
Persecondnews reports that Frimpong suffered the setback during the Reds’ 4-2 opening win over Bournemouth at Anfield last Friday.
Slot commended the medical staff’s decision to take Frimpong off, saying, “The medical team were completely right about Jeremie to tell me to take him off because he is out until the end of the international break (September 10), and that happened during the game.”
He added, “I think I got criticised for taking him off, didn’t I? It had nothing to do with how he played but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring and by we, I mean the medical staff. It was a good call to take him off, otherwise he would have been out for longer.”
Meanwhile, Conor Bradley, Liverpool’s other option at right-back, has returned to training after a long spell out with injury.
Slot disclosed that Bradley only returned to training on Thursday, and his availability for Monday’s match against Newcastle is uncertain.
The build-up to Monday’s match has been dominated by Liverpool’s pursuit of unsettled Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The Magpies are reportedly demanding a British record transfer fee of £150 million ($202 million) for the 25-year-old Sweden international.
Slot did not comment on the transfer rumors, but the Reds will be looking to strengthen their squad in the coming weeks.
