The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Isa Mohammed (Ihamo) of the APC as winner of the Zaria Kewaye State Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the result in Zaria.

Abdullahi said Mohammed secured 26,613 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nuhu Muazu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 5, 721 votes while Mahmud Wappa of the PDP scored 5,331 votes to come third.

“Isa Haruna Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ the returning officer said.

Also, APC’s Hassan Shado, won the Okura State Constituency seat in Kogi State.

Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre on Saturday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Onome, disclosed that the APC candidate polled a total of 55,073 votes, while the candidates of the PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.

However, the election witnessed low voter turnout, with some opposition parties raising concerns over the credibility of the entire process.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oliver Agundu, while lamenting the low voter turnout, commended the peaceful conduct of the poll.

In Edo, INEC declared Omosede Igbinedion of the APC as the winner of the Ovia Federal Constituency seat.

The seat in the National Assembly became vacant in September 2024, after Dennis Idahosa, who hitherto represented Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged as deputy governor.

The Returning Officer for Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, Prof. Clement Ighodalo, said that the APC candidate, polled a total of 77,053 votes to emerge the winner of the poll.

He added that the PDP’s candidate, Johnny Aikpitanyi, scored 3,838 votes; while the candidate of the Action Democratic Congress, Dr. Sandra Asemota, garnered 925 votes to place first and second runners-up, respectively.

“This is the declaration. I, Professor Clement Ighodalo, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2025 Ovia Federal Constituency bye election, held on the 16th day of August, 2024.

“That Omosede Igbinedion of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner of the election,” he said.

Igbinedion, who was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2011, lost her re-election bid to the incumbent deputy governor, Idahosa.

She also lost another attempt to Idahosa in 2023 and had to defect from the PDP to the APC when Idahosa was nominated as the APC governorship candidate for the September 2024 governorship election in the state.

She clinched the APC ticket after Idahosa assumed office as the deputy governor
