Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has joined Everton on a season-long loan deal, marking a significant move in his career.
The 29-year-old England international has been eager to revive his spluttering career after falling out of favor with City boss Pep Guardiola last season.
Grealish made just seven starts in the Premier League and was notably left out of City’s squad for the Club World Cup in the United States.
Grealish disclosed his excitement about joining Everton, saying, “I’m over the moon to have signed for Everton – it’s massive for me, honestly. This is a great club, with great fans.”
He has chosen to wear the number 18 shirt, a tribute to his favorite English players, Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, who both wore the same number during their time with the club.
Grealish even spoke with Rooney before finalizing his decision, ensuring the legendary player’s awareness of his jersey choice.
Everton manager David Moyes welcomed Grealish to the team, highlighting his experience and understanding of the Premier League as significant assets.
Moyes added: “I know Jack’s ambition is to get back into the England squad, so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season.”
Grealish’s move to Everton comes with an option to buy for £50 million, and he could make his debut in the Premier League opener against Leeds on August 18.
Grealish’s time at Manchester City was marked by significant successes, including three Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.
However, his form dipped considerably after the 2022-23 treble-winning campaign.
Being left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad was a setback, leaving him “heartbroken”.
