Crystal Palace emerged victorious in the FA Community Shield, defeating Liverpool 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 in regular time.

The match, played at Wembley Stadium, was a thrilling encounter that saw both teams create scoring opportunities.

Liverpool got off to a dream start, with summer signings Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike combining to open the scoring after just four minutes.

Ekitike finished a neat pass from Wirtz to give the Reds the lead.

However, Palace quickly responded, with Jean-Philippe Mateta converting a penalty after Ismaila Sarr was fouled by Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool regained the lead just four minutes later, courtesy of a bizarre own goal.

Jeremie Frimpong’s looping cross found the back of the net, beating Dean Henderson and giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead.

However, Palace equalized again just before halftime, with Sarr scoring a tidy finish after being played through by Adam Wharton.

The match ultimately went to a penalty shootout, with Crystal Palace emerging victorious.

Dean Henderson made a pair of crucial saves for Palace, while substitute Justin Devenney scored the winning penalty to seal the win for Oliver Glasner’s side.
