Tinubu Celebrates D’Tigress with $100,000, Flats, Prestigious OON Award

President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their historic win at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at a reception, announced a series of rewards for the team.

The reception held at the Presidential Villa was attended by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and the chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Sports.

The rewards for the team include national honors, cash prizes, and housing units.

Every player and official has been conferred with the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award.

President Tinubu also pledged $100,000 to each player and $50,000 to the technical crew.

In addition, team members will receive flats in the Federal Capital Territory.

D’Tigress’ victory at the Afrobasket tournament marks a significant milestone, with the team becoming the first to win the title five times consecutively.

The team’s achievement is a testament to their dedication, hard work, and perseverance.

The win also secured their spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
