The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has confiscated banned, expired, and unregistered products valued at over N1.5 billion.

The products were seized during a major enforcement operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.

The agency, in a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, August 4, said that the operation was led by its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade.

The operation uncovered several warehouses stocked with cosmetics, food items, and other regulated products that were either unregistered or lacked appropriate labelling, including expiry dates.

The statement reads: “Over a trailer load of such products was evacuated, while another trailer of cosmetics was intercepted. The driver fled, but the trailer was secured by NAFDAC personnel.

“This operation forms part of NAFDAC’s intensified nationwide crackdown on unsafe consumer goods. This is one of the largest seizures in recent months.”

The agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and urged consumers to remain vigilant, avoid purchasing unregulated products, and promptly report suspicious items.
