President Bola Tinubu will preside over a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Thursday, July 17 at 5 pm to pay tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson in a post on his official X handle late Wednesday, the rescheduled session will be a special sitting of tributes for the departed leader, attended by key government figures, including the leadership of the National Assembly, the judiciary, and representatives of Buhari’s family.
The FEC meeting will take place after the third-day prayer for the late Buhari at his residence in Daura, Katsina state, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima leading a delegation of cabinet ministers.
Confirming Onanuga’s X post, Mr. Rabiu Ibrahim, special assistant on media to Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, in a statement said, “The expanded FEC session will be attended by key government figures.”
He added that “additional tributes will be paid at a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, July 18, and a special church service on Sunday, July 20.”
Persecondnews recalls that the special FEC meeting was initially postponed due to a clash with the state funeral for Buhari held in Daura on Tuesday, July 14.
The session will serve as a platform for the government to pay its last respects to the late former president, who played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s history.
