NSC Backs Junior D’Tigress Ahead of FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Nigeria’s U-19 women’s basketball team, Junior D’Tigress, as they prepare to take on the best in the world at the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup in the Czech Republic.

A statement signed by Dr. Kehinde Ajayi, the Director of Press at NSC on Friday said the team arrived in Brno on the eve of the tournament, which kicks off this weekend.

The Director General of NSC, Bukola Olopade, said: “This is more than just a tournament, it’s a statement of belief in the future of Nigerian sports. Our girls are carrying the hopes of a proud nation, and we believe in their ability to compete, inspire, and achieve greatness.”

The NSC stands fully behind the team, and Olopade’s words of encouragement underscore the Commission’s commitment to supporting Junior D’Tigress.

The Junior D’Tigress are drawn in Group B and will face stiff competition from China, Canada, and Portugal in the group stage.

Their fixtures are scheduled for Saturday, July 12, against China, Sunday, July 13, against Canada, and Tuesday, July 15, against Portugal.

Led by Head Coach Faustina Akhere Juliana and supported by Assistant Coaches Nyingifa Atonye and Usuwa Chinedu Stone, the team is focused and ready to represent Nigeria on the global stage.

The 16th edition of the FIBA U-19 Women’s World Cup, featuring 16 nations, will take place from July 12-20 in Brno, Czech Republic.
