President Bola Tinubu has opened the first 24-hour bus terminal in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at Mabushi, hailing it as a catalyst for economic growth.

Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, President Tinubu emphasized that the Mabushi bus terminal is more than just a transit point.

It stands as a clear demonstration of the government’s steadfast dedication to ensuring security and prosperity for all Abuja residents.

Persecondnews correspondent who covered the event reports that the Mabushi bus terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 150 capacity bus parking spaces, a 540-seater departure lounge, 45 CCTV cameras, drivers’ lounge, restaurant, and a mini cinema.

Tinubu further noted that the completion of both the Mabushi Bus Terminal and the Kugbo Terminal represents a crucial advancement in bringing order, accountability, and safety to public transportation within the FCT.

“For too long, the people of Abuja have grappled with the challenges of an informal transport system, leading to traffic congestion and the menace of one chance that have threatened the peace of our citizens,” he said.

The president applauded the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his achievements, saying that they justify President Tinubu’s appointment.

He added that the minister’s success is a clear indication that the “Renewed Hope Agenda” is not just a slogan but an action plan to transform Nigeria.

Earlier, Wike expressed his satisfaction at commissioning the new bus terminal, a project that began in July 2024.

Wike highlighted that this new infrastructure will significantly reduce “one-chance” insecurity within the capital.

He also announced that three additional terminals are nearing completion, all aimed at improving the movement of goods and people across the city.

“This terminal was flagged off by the Speaker in July 2024, and in less than a year, by God’s grace, we are here to commission this terminal,” Wike said.

He assured that the infrastructure will be manned by capable hands to enable maintenance and sustainability of the project.

The Minister of Transportation, Sen. Sa’idu Alkali, commended President Tinubu for revolutionizing and prioritizing the transport sector in his “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Alkali noted that the commissioning of the bus terminal is a historic event and that the President has also given approval for the construction of six bus terminals in the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

According to Alkali, the projects are strategically placed to promote economic growth within the geopolitical zones.

“This is the first time the government has made immense investments in transportation aside from rail and road.”

He appreciated the visionary leadership of President Tinubu for prioritizing the development of transport infrastructure in the country.

The terminal is expected to improve the quality of life for residents, reduce traffic congestion, and promote economic growth.
