The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Tuesday presented welfare cheques worth ₦37.3 million to the families of 39 deceased officers who served in the command.

Persecondnews reports that the ceremony, held at the command headquarters in Abuja, was presided over by Police Commissioner Ajao Adewale, who made the presentations on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The funds, totaling ₦37,388,829.25, were disbursed under three major schemes: the Group Life Assurance (GLA), the Nigeria Police Force Welfare Insurance Scheme (IGPFW), and the Group Personal Accident (GPA) coverage.

Speaking at the event, CP Ajao reiterated the IGP’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families.

He noted that the gesture goes beyond financial compensation, describing it as a tribute to the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen officers.

“These cheques represent more than financial support; they are a symbol of our respect, remembrance, and solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes,” Ajao said.

He further stressed the Inspector-General’s resolve to institutionalize a compassionate and responsive welfare system within the Force—one that boosts morale and underscores the value placed on every officer’s service.

The police boss reaffirmed the command’s continued support for police personnel and pledged to ensure that the sacrifices of those who died in service are never forgotten.

The presentation ceremony was attended by senior officers of the command, representatives of the insurance partners, and family members of the deceased officers.
