Tragedy has struck the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, as Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the Chairman of Ifon Ward 5 in Ose Local Government Area, was killed after being kidnapped.

The abduction occurred around 10 pm on Monday in Ifon town while Adepoyigi was parking his car at home.

Persecondnews recalls that his captors initially demanded a staggering N100 million ransom.

Despite the family’s efforts to raise N5 million and send two people to deliver it, the kidnappers refused the amount, holding the couriers hostage and demanding a further N30 million.

On Saturday, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, a lawyer, announced with deep regret that Adepoyigi had been killed by the gunmen, while the other two individuals have been released.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Oluwaseun Ayomitan Ogunniyi, the council boss decried the rising insecurity in the area following this devastating loss.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, he called on the federal government to support the administration of Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration to defeat banditry and other forms of criminality.

”While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors.

”The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased.

“His dedication to the progress of our party and the grassroots community will be forever remembered and honored.

“We are now at a critical juncture where security challenges have become a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people. Only a few days before this incident, another resident narrowly escaped being kidnapped while parking his motorcycle.

“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension,” the council boss said.
