The Senate has confirmed the appointments of five Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The newly confirmed RECs are Mr. Umar Garba (Kano), Mr. Sa’ad Idris (Bauchi), Mr. Chukwemeka Ibeziako to t1t ta(Anambra), Mr. Umar Mukhtar (Borno), and Dr. Johnson Sinkiem (Bayelsa).

Persecondnews reports that their confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the Committee on INEC at plenary on Wednesday.

The report was presented by the Chairman of the committee, Sen. Simon Lalong (APC-Plateau).

Lalong said the committee evaluated the nominees’ resumes, work experiences, and career progression during the screening, noting that they responded satisfactorily to questions and were deemed qualified for the appointment.

He said: “After carefully scrutinising all the relevant documents of the nominees and due consideration of their levels of exposure, experiences, performances, qualifications and integrity, this committee hereby recommends that Senate confirm the nominees.”

PPersecondnews recalls that President Bola Tinubu had on Monday swore in two newly appointed INEC commissioners.
