As a testament to its reputation as one of the leading forces in the global fight against illicit substances, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) received a commendation from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).

It also hailed NDLEA’s operational successes against drugs.

The agency assured NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, of continued support and further collaboration in combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

In a statement sent to Persecondnews on Monday in Abuja, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, said the commendation and assurance were given by INL Director in Nigeria, Ms. Candace Spradley, who led her colleague, Ms. Ada Aki, on a courtesy visit to Marwa at the agency’s national headquarters in Abuja on April 28.

Spradley said that their visit aimed to reaffirm the US government’s commitment to combating narcotics, particularly opioids, and to further strengthen the existing partnership between the two agencies.

She said: “Our visit is to underscore the importance of our collaboration and to assure you that we are ready to support your work. If there is any area of assistance you will like, we will be ready to assist you.”

Responding, Marwa emphasized the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

He also noted the US President’s keen interest in fighting the drug scourge.

While commending INL for its support to NDLEA, Marwa stressed the need for continued assistance from the US and other international partners to sustain the agency’s current operational successes.
