RMD Under Fire for Steamy Birthday Post with Omoni Oboli

997

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has found himself at the centre of controversy following a steamy photo he shared with actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli in celebration of her 47th birthday.

The intimate image, which shows RMD and Omoni in a passionate pose, has sparked a heated debate online, with many fans accusing the actor of crossing the line.

The photo, which appears to be a behind-the-scenes moment from a movie set, shows the duo in a close embrace, with RMD leaning in for a kiss as Omoni sits perched on a kitchen counter.

Although both actors are known for their professionalism and on-screen chemistry, critics argue that the image was too suggestive for a public platform, especially considering their public personas and family lives.

In the caption accompanying the post, RMD celebrated Omoni’s birthday with heartfelt words, describing her as “brilliant, beautiful, and fiercely talented.”

However, the message was overshadowed by the sensual nature of the image, which quickly went viral and triggered backlash from segments of the public.

Some social media users labeled the image as “inappropriate” and “disrespectful,” especially given RMD’s reputation as a respected elder statesman in Nollywood.

Others questioned the necessity of sharing such a personal moment, even if it was staged for a film.

“He should know better,” one comment read. “There are classier ways to wish a friend happy birthday.”

While some came to RMD’s defence, calling the outrage hypocritical and reminding critics that the image was likely part of a professional shoot, the majority of responses leaned toward disappointment.

“There’s acting, and then there’s this,” another user added. “Why share it publicly if you knew it would stir reactions?”

Persecondnews observes that Omoni Oboli has yet to publicly addressed the criticism.

This isn’t the first time Nollywood stars have sparked conversations with provocative promotional material.

As the lines between personal branding and film marketing blur, fans are often left wondering where to draw the line between fiction and reality.

Despite the criticism, some industry insiders suggest the buzz may be strategic, pointing to the potential promotion of an upcoming project featuring both actors.
