Barely 21 days after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, hundreds of women on Monday massed in Port Harcourt, the state capital and marched through the streets in support of the emergency rule and the sole administrator.
The women, all dressed in white, gathered at the Garrison Bus Stop in the city centre as early as 8.00 a.m. to kick off the rally.
At the time of this report, the women were marching along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, singing solidarity songs in support of retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Administrator just as they made their way to the Government House.
Persecondnews recalls that last week, hundreds of women under the aegis of ‘Rivers Women for Sim’ staged a protest against the state of emergency and the suspension of Gov. Siminalayi Fubara.
On March 18, 2025, the President had suspended Gov. Fubara, the Deputy Governor, and all the elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a six-month period and appointed the administrator to oversee the affairs of the state during the emergency period.
