The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has invited Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II for questioning over the recent Sallah Durbar celebrations in Kano, where violence and alleged violations occurred.
The emir is expected to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on April 8, 2025, to address concerns surrounding the incident which reportedly the life of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu and left another, Aminu Suleman, injured.
According to a copy of the letter addressed to Sanusi, he is invited for an investigative meeting with regards to the incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within his domain.
The letter signed by Commissioner of Police (OPS), CP Olajide Ibitoye on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) reads: “I have the directives of the Inspector General of police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department (FID) to invite you for an investigative meeting with regards to an incident that occurred during the Sallah celebration within your domain.
“In view of the above, you are hereby invited to Force Intelligence Department, opposite Police Force Headquarters Area 11. Abuja by 1000hrs of Tuesday 8th of April, 2025 Your availability is highly sought for a purposeful investigation.”
Police have arrested a suspect, Usman Sagiru, in connection with the alleged killing of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu during an attack on the entourage of Sanusi II.
Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman sustained injuries and was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano for medical treatment.
Persecondnews recalls that the State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident involving Emir Sanusi II’s entourage.
The incident happened as local guards escorted the emir back from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground, where they had observed the two-rakaat Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
