Gunmen have again struck in Abuja, abducting Lieutenant Cynthia Akor, a Nigerian Naval officer assigned to the Defence Headquarters, along with two other individuals.
The abduction took place on Friday night at the victims’ residence in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Defence Headquarters, where Lt. Akor is attached, is responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s military operations and training for security.
A source, who preferred to remain anonymous due to security concerns, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Saturday.
The source, a resident of the same area, revealed that the kidnappers have established contact with the hostages’ families, demanding a ransom of N100 million in exchange for their safe release.
The source said: “Among the three people that were kidnapped on Friday night in the Mpape area is a DHQ official, Akor.
“The kidnappers have already reached out to their families and are demanding N100m ransom.”
Efforts to contact Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, and Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, were unsuccessful, as they had not responded to messages sent to their phones at the time of filing this report.
When contacted, SP. Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, promised to verify the incident and provide additional information.
She said: “I will confirm and get back to you shortly.”
