Just in: Supreme Court reinstates Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary

1k

The legal battle for the position of Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has finally come to an end with the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s decision to reinstate Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s Secretary on Friday.

The Apex Court, in a unanimous judgment by a five-member panel, declared that matters concerning a political party’s leadership or membership are internal affairs that should not be litigated in court.

The court overturned the ruling of Appeal Court, Enugu Division, which on December 20, 2024, had upheld the Federal High Court’s decision to remove Anyanwu from his position.

It ruled that the Federal High Court did not have the authority to hear the case brought by Aniagwu Emmanuel, effectively declaring the lower court’s decision a nullity.

Persecondnews recalls that the PDP has been embroiled in internal crisis in recent times, marked by intense power struggles, bitter infighting, and deep-seated divisions that threaten to tear the party asunder.
