In a move aimed at boosting operational efficiency, the Police Service Commission(PSC) on Monday approved the promotion of 66 senior police officers.
Notable among the promoted officers are the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector General and one-time police spokesman in Lagos command and currently a Deputy Commissioner in Ogun, Bode Ojajuni, who has been promoted to the rank of Commissioner.
Apart from Disu, the Commission also approved the promotion of 19 Commissioners to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General.
Additionally, it approved the promotion of 19 Deputy Commissioners to the substantive rank of Commissioner.
Furthermore, 13 Superintendents of Police were promoted to Chief Superintendents, while 14 Deputy Superintendents were elevated to Superintendents.
The commission, in a statement released by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, on Monday, said all the officers had appeared before the Commission in plenary and were subjected to examination and interactive interviews.
According to Anih, PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu led the promotion exercise, with support from key officials, including DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Commissioner representing the police in the Commission, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Commission’s Secretary.
The statement reads: “The new Assistant Inspectors General of Police are Fasuba Akinyele Olabode, CP Special Fraud Unit, Force Headquarters; Musibau Omolabi Ajani, CP Admin, FCID; Aliyu Abubakar Musa, CP Katsina State Command; Patrick Adedeji Atayero, former CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), Force Headquarters, CP Anti-Fraud Section, FCID, Director of Sports, Nigeria Police Force, and Deputy Commissioner Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters; Gyogon Augustine Grimah, CP Cross River State Command; and Olaiya Victor Mobolaji, CP Kwara State Command. Persecondnews had reported on December 6, 2024, that the commission took disciplinary actions against two Assistant Inspectors-General and an Assistant Commissioner.
An AIG was reprimanded for disobeying lawful instructions, while another AIG received a warning letter for negligence, and an ACP faced demotion.
The disciplinary actions also led to the dismissal of 10 Assistant Superintendents, six Deputy Superintendents, two Chief Superintendents, and one Superintendent.
Additionally, it resulted in the demotion of several officers, including one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents, and 13 Assistant Superintendents.
