PDP crisis: Udeh-Okoye, party file motion to join Anyanwu’s suit against INEC, Damagun

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) internal conflicts has continued to escalate with the latest development being the party’s decision, along with Sunday Udeh-Okoye, to join Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This move comes after the Appeal Court sacked Senator Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary, affirming Ude Okoye as the substantive secretary.

The lawsuit and the ongoing power struggle within the PDP reflect the party’s deepening internal crisis.

Persecondnews had reported that Sen. Anyanwu took legal action against INEC and PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun.

Anyanwu filed the lawsuit on February 19 before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging plans to remove him as the party’s national secretary.

Ruling on Anyanwu’s motion ex parte moved by his lawyer, Mr. Ken Njemanze (SAN), Justice Ekwo declined to grant the prayers but rather ordered him to put the defendants on notice to show cause on the next adjourned date why his prayers should not be granted.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case until February 24.

Persecondnews reports that when the case was called on Monday, Anyanwu’s lawyer, Njemanze, notified the court that the hearing was scheduled for the defendants to provide reasons for their actions.

Although INEC was represented by Mr. Ahmed Mohammed, no lawyer appeared for Damagun.

However, Mr. Paul Erokoro (SAN), and Mr. Paul-Harris Ogbole (SAN), announced an appearance for parties seeking to be joined in the suit.

While Erokoro announced an appearance for Udeh-Okoye, Ogbole represented PDP.

Erokoro informed the court that Udeh-Okoye holds the position of substantive national secretary of the party.
