The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has announced the postponement of the National Council for Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy meeting scheduled to hold in Osun State from February 25 to 27, 2025.

This decision comes on the heels of heightened political tensions in the state following the local government poll crisis.

According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris, the “current tense situation” in Osun State, stemming from political unrest and uproar over the ongoing local government elections, necessitated the postponement.

Idris stated: “I wish to bring to your notice the current tense situation in Osun State…in view of the ongoing local government elections.”

He directed all concerned parties to take note of the change in schedule and assured them that a new date for the meeting would be announced in due course.

The ministry has urged recipients of the circular to ensure its wide dissemination to all relevant stakeholders.

“From the foregoing, I am directed by the Hon. Minister to inform you that the upcoming Council Meeting…has been postponed to a later date that will be duly communicated,” a memo leaked to the media reads.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had won all the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 30 local government areas of Osun State in the election conducted on Saturday, February 22 against the advice of the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police.

The duo insisted that the election violates and Appeal Court judgment which reinstated the sacked APC council chairmen.
