The FCT Badminton Association has taken a significant step in strengthening ties with the Indian community in Nigeria, as its leadership paid a courtesy visit to the Indian Head of Chancery, Mr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal.
The visit, led by retired Comptroller Usman Bappa, the Chairman of the FCT Badminton Association, aimed to foster collaboration and promote the growth of badminton in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“We want to appreciate you for receiving us today. We are here to express our desire to collaborate with you, knowing fully well that we have been observing your active participation in badminton, not just the Indian Embassy, but also the Indian community in the FCT,” said Comptroller Bappa.
He highlighted the rich history of badminton, tracing its roots to Ancient Greece, China, and India.
During the visit, the FCT Badminton Chairman briefed the Indian Head of Chancery on the association’s projects, including a competition for out-of-school and in-school indigent children, the Area Councils Badminton Cup, and the upcoming Asian Badminton Cup.
The Asian Badminton Cup, scheduled to honour FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, will feature participation from other Asian communities, in addition to the Indian community.
The Association is working to equip over 45 clubs in the FCT and provide periodic training for players and officials.
The association, however, faces challenges in acquiring equipment due to the economic situation in the country.
Responding, Mr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal, promised to support the FCT badminton board in the best possible way to achieve the growth of the sport in the FCT.
He commended the initiative to include Indian and other Asian communities in competitions, recognizing its potential to promote the growth and participation of badminton in the FCT.
