Former Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi, has resigned as Technical Adviser of Lobi Stars, leaving the team at the bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table.
Amokachi’s resignation comes after a string of poor performances by the team, which has recorded only 22 points from 24 matches.
Lobi Stars’ Assistant Coach, Tar Akombo, will take charge of the team for their crucial NPFL fixture against second-placed Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Persecondnews reports that Amokachi’s departure is not surprising, given the team’s dismal performance, which has left them struggling to avoid relegation.
This is not the first time Amokachi has announced his resignation from Lobi Stars.
In December 2024, he had initially resigned, only to stage a surprise comeback a few days later.
However, it appears that Amokachi has finally thrown in the towel, leaving the team to face its challenges without him.
Lobi Stars have been struggling to find a home ground, having moved from the Lafia Stadium to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
The team has been on the road for close to three years, following the prolonged renovation work on their traditional home ground, the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
The team’s fans have blamed the club’s poor performance on the lack of home support.
“We are not surprised by Amokachi’s resignation,” said a Lobi Stars fan. ”
The team has been struggling, and it’s clear that something needs to change with the hope that the new coach can turn things around and steer it away from relegation.
