Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police on Monday took over the premises of the Lagos State House of Assembly complex at Alausa, Ikeja.

The armed security personnel had stationed at the complex as early as 9.00 am.

The new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda’s convoy drove in at about 11.10am.

At the time of this report, the House has not convened for plenary as a result of the situation.

The lawmakers were, however, seen in groups engaging in conversations pending the convening of plenary session.

Staff members said the security situation is not unconnected with the alleged plan by the embattled former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to storm the House.

Persecondnews recalls that Obasa who was removed Obasa by 36 of the lawmakers, on January 13, 2025 while he was in US, had rejected the sack, calling it illegal.

Meanwhile, Obasa has filed a suit at the State High Court, Ikeja, through his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), asking for a accelerated hearing of the suit and to compel the defendants to respond within seven days.

Obasa insisted that his removal on January 13, 2025, by 36 of the 40-member House violated the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Assembly’s own Standing Orders.
