For allegedly assaulting a lecturer, authorities of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UniZik), Awka, Anambra State, have expelled a student, Chimamaka Goddy-Mbakwe Precious.
The expelled student after she was found guilty of assaulting a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
According to an official expulsion letter issued on February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor Modebelu, the decision was made in line with the Student Disciplinary Committee’s recommendation, which deemed the student’s conduct a serious breach of the university’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).
Persecondnews recalls that a widely-shared video captured the incident where Precious allegedly assaulted Dr. Okoye.
The lecturer had interrupted a TikTok video Precious was recording on campus, leading to the altercation.
According to the letter, the expulsion takes immediate effect, with the university directing Precious to vacate the premises and return any university property in her possession.
The letter reads: “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor has received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee on the case of your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theater and Film Studies, which was found to be a gross misconduct and violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).
“Consequently, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The expulsion takes immediate effect.
“You are expected to vacate the University premises immediately and return any University property in your possession.”
Persecondnews recalls a similar incident at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in 2021.
Salaudeen Waliu Aanuoluwa, a final-year Microbiology student, allegedly assaulted Mrs Rahmat Zakariyau, a lecturer in the same department, leaving her unconscious.
Consequently, the student was expelled by the university management.
